Choosing
a tarot deck - Which one is for me?
Many
hundreds of decks of Tarot cards have been produced over the years, with intricate and beautiful designs. More and more cards
are being designed now as the interest in tarot grows.
I
recommend that the only criteria you need when choosing a deck is choose the deck you are personally and clairvoyantly drawn
to, not a deck you are told to use by someone else.
When
selecting your first deck in a shop or at a psychic fayre, (I don’t recommend buying online for your first deck as you
can’t "connect" with the pack) look at all of them first, concentrate on them and breathe deeply– the one you
are repeatedly drawn to is the deck for you. It will feel instinctively right when you pick it up. You may wish to pass your
hand over them to see which deck feels right.
Now,
some say that you should never buy your own cards - I personally don't agree that it makes a jot of difference and is superstition.
If
in doubt, get Mr Visa to buy them for you! Problem sorted!
If you
want to get an idea of what you could be drawn to – have a look at www.aeclectictarot.net - over 200 decks reviewed,
with images of several cards per deck. I find it a very useful site when seeing what I might like next!

Caring
for your cards
Looking after
the cards is something I like to do in order to keep the energy around them pure.
Once a deck
is purchased, some people choose to "annoint" their brand new cards by rubbing essential oils into each card before
using the deck for the first time.
This also gives
the deck a worn look, as the oils darken the card.
Some may choose
a ritual or blessing to be performed at the same time. Keep your cards wrapped in a special cloth, a pouch, bag or box, make
it a sacred thing.
A crystal placed
in the bag or box alongside them will also cleanse the cards of the last querent's energy between uses, and charge them with
renewed and positive energy .
This is especially
effective if you dedicate your crystal to this specific purpose before placing it with your cards.
I choose to
keep my cards with a clear quartz crystal wand alongside them. Clear quartz, smoky quartz, carnelian or amethyst are ideal,
but choose whatever stone you feel does the job best for you.
